Why do you need a backflow?
Backflow occurs when contaminated water reverses flow and enters clean water lines, which can happen at any cross-connection between clean and dirty water lines. This problem is typically caused by a significant change in water pressure, such as from a burst water main or a slow leak. The contaminated water may contain hazardous materials like human waste, pesticides, or lawn chemicals, posing serious health concerns to you and your Shakopee neighbors.
To prevent backflow from occurring, a backflow preventer is installed. A backflow preventer can stop dirty water from entering the clean water supply in the event of a change in water pressure. However, it is crucial to properly install and test the backflow to ensure that the clean water line remains free of contaminants.
Shakopee municipal codes require annual testing of backflow prevention devices to ensure they function correctly. Failure to complete testing annually may result in fines, and the water supply to your property or business may be shut off. To avoid such issues, it is recommended to schedule backflow testing with Shakopee Sprinklers annually.
