Backflow Testing Shakopee MN
If your lawn irrigation system has a testable backflow device, Shakopee Public Utilities requires it to be tested every year. The purpose is to help protect the drinking water supply from contamination. SPU says irrigation backflow devices must be tested upon installation and then annually after that. They also note that testing should be done by an ASSE certified tester and that failed devices must be repaired or replaced and retested.
At Shakopee Sprinklers, we provide residential backflow testing for homeowners in Shakopee. We are listed on Shakopee Public Utilities certified tester list as a residential-only tester.
For most sprinkler systems in Shakopee, backflow testing is best done around spring startup. SPU’s current policy says irrigation system backflow preventer devices must be completed each year, preferably at the time of system startup, because the system is taken in and out of service due to the local climate.
Test reports must be entered through The Compliance Engine. SPU says reports sent directly to SPU or the City are not accepted and will still be considered delinquent until the tester enters them into that database. Their policy also says residential customers can be charged a one time annual penalty if the test is not submitted on time and a failed device can also place the system into lockout status until it is corrected.
